Umeå School of Architecture
Umeå School of Architecture (abbreviated UMA) was founded in 2009 as the fourth academic school in Sweden to provide a professional degree in architecture. It is part of Umeå University. Unlike the other Architectural Schools in Sweden, UMA has a spoken policy of sustainable development and integrated design, and aims to grow into "an international laboratory of experimental architectural development."〔Arkitekthögskolan: (About the School of Architecture )〕 The Danish architect Peter Kjaer is appointed rector for the school.
The five-year architectural programme started in fall 2009 at provisionary premises in central Umeå, but could before fall 2010 move to a new building by Danish architect firm Henning Larsen Architects,〔(Article about the School at Contractdesign.com ) Checked June 27, 2013〕 close to the Umeå Institute of Design and the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts at the Umeå Arts Campus.〔(Article about Umeå Arts Campus ) Checked February 23, 2010〕 Master's degree programs will start in fall 2010.
